Kari-Tek’s revolutionary system sets new standards for control and reliability. As well as delighting kayakers, it also increases choice and reduces costs for manufacturers and dealers.

Kari-Tek Skeg SystemsŪ, featuring the Hydro-SkegŪ, are based on a completely re-engineered kayak skeg design. We use modern manufacturing techniques to give users unheard of levels of control and reliability, while offering the kayak manufacturer a system which is cost effective and straightforward to integrate into existing production. The system has demonstrated 100% reliability over two years of development. It’s available now, is competitively priced and is already proving a hit with kayakers and manufacturers.

The system is made up of a precision plastic skeg box and a precision plastic operating slider. Both are supplied to manufacturers pre-assembled, are watertight, fully corrosion resistant and can be installed into plastic or composite kayaks.

The system offers new levels of control and reliability: the simple, reliable hydraulics used in the Hydro SkegŪ and Skeg Rudder System mean that there are no more wires to kink or ropes to fray. For those not ready for the Hydro SkegŪ, there are economical wire and rope versions. It’s simply “plug and play” to change the operating method – all skeg options are interchangeable – so it’s easy to upgrade at a later date.

The skeg uses a robust dagger skeg blade. The blade gives total control and retracts undamaged if knocked. All versions are virtually maintenance free and totally corrosion resistant.

Skeg Rudder System - maximum flexibility

The latest development in Kari-Tek’s Skeg SystemsŪ is the revolutionary new Skeg Rudder System (SRS). Built with the same technology as the Hydro-SkegŪ and interchangeable with it, the SRS brings new levels of reliability and performance. It’s set to change kayak rudders forever.

The revolutionary new Skeg Rudder System (SRS) extends all the benefits of the skeg to kayakers who use rudders. The SRS is both a skeg and a rudder, giving you flexibility. The skeg function is controlled by the deck mounted slider, the rudder is operated by an adjustable foot bar.

The robust SRS retracts undamaged if knocked, whatever the rudder setting. Just like a skeg, it mounts under the stern and so keeps the aesthetic lines of the kayak and doesn’t catch the wind. Using the same simple, reliable hydraulics as the Hydro SkegŪ means it is also low maintenance and totally corrosion resistant.
