Quantities: Keel strip for a 17 ft 6 inch kayak: 500 grams of gel with 5% pigment, 5% styrene wax. Add the same volume of glass bubbles with 6 cc of catalyst.

  • A 2 inch (50 mm) diolen tape should be used
  • Stick a two inch (50mm) masking tape strip along the length of the keel. With a one inch strip either side of the two inch tape
  • Remove the two inch tape
  • Using a nylon disc in an electric drill or sand the area between the two tapes down (If you use a nylon disc, the tape will not be damaged)
  • De-grease with acetone
  • Mix resin and wet out the glass tape. Roller or use a brush to remove all air bubbles
  • Mix a paste of gel/pigment/micro balloons and catalyst
  • Allow the keel strip to harden
  • Remove all masking tape
  • Sand down rough edges
  • Clean area if needed either side of the new keel strip
