As standard we fit all our kayaks with a wire skeg. We believe this is the best system available at present although all skeg systems need some care and maintenance to fuction reliably. The wire skeg is controled by a slider fitted as standard on the left side of the paddler, the slider is connected to a stailless steel wire in a plastic tube which pushes the skeg down and pulls it back up. The skeg box is moulded in the kayak and is therefore less prone to leaks than other systems, all components are recessed and therefore will not catch on clothing etc. during rescues.

We do also offer a rope skeg option.

We advice this option on our three piece kayaks as it allows the controls to remain next to the paddler unlike the wire skeg which can only be fitted in the stern section of the 3-piece kayak.

The cleat for the rope will be situated just behind the cockpit rim on the rear deck. As standard this will be operated with the left hand unless otherwise specified when ordering.

This skeg is also an option for expedition kayaks as it can be easier to improvise repairs in the field.

The rope leads out through the rear deck.
