The skeg can be used to trim the kayak in wind, and it does not get in the way of tow lines or become a danger when undertaking rescues; which we often see with a rudder. For single kayaks we recommend a skeg over a rudder because they handle well in intermediate to advanced conditions not to require rudders.
The exceptions to this rule is for the Triton (our tandem kayak), or for racing, in both casses we recommend a rudder when kayaking in conditions above force 4.
If you decide that you would like a rudder rather than a skeg we do offer this as a custom option on all our kayaks.
We offer a choice between 2 systems.
- KajakSport - Navigator Rudder with the flex joint steering system.
- Smart Track Control System
