Roland Arnison

Roland has been a sea kayaker for many years and already paddled an Explorer which was a little beat up from years of use. In 2023 he contacted Sea Kayaking UK to tell us about his planned expedition 'Call of the Loon', during which he aimed to record the song or call of all Scotland's native sea birds. Scotland is an iconic paddling destination enjoyed by many sea kayakers for its scenery, tides, and incredible wildlife. Sea birds are enjoyed by all paddlers even if it's not at the forefront of our minds, their numbers have been rapidly declining over recent years, Sea Kayaking UK hopes this project will shine a light on the struggles of the sea birds but will also capture their beautiful calls for posterity. Roland will be featuring on BBC radio 4 to talk about call of the loon
